Case Background: In -1996, the client, then nine years old, was charged with malicious destruction of property. The case was resolved with a continuance without a finding (CWOF) and was ultimately dismissed after he paid $500 in restitution. Despite the dismissal, the offense remained on his record, posing significant obstacles to his career aspirations in law enforcement.

Legal Challenges:

1. Malicious Destruction of Property: The client’s record included an entry for an offense committed at a very young age, which was adversely impacting his ability to pursue a career as a police officer.
2. Expungement Eligibility: Securing an expungement required demonstrating that the record met the criteria under Massachusetts law for expungement, specifically that the offense is no longer considered a crime for someone of his age at the time of the offense.
